Segment of A Mother's Remarks on a Set of Cuts for Children, published in 1803.

These 'playing cards,' a continuation of FIC.2013.43.1 & FIC.2013.43.2, were used as vocabulary tools for children in the early nineteenth century. This set of cards in particular show six scenes of young students engaging in leisurely activities. The games shown, such as jumping rope, swinging, and playing on an early version of a see-saw, were common pastimes for children during this time. The Mother's Remarks encouraged children to connect their actions with the correct terms to describe them.
