Segment of A Mother's Remarks on a Set of Cuts for Children, published in 1803.

These 'playing cards,' a continuation of FIC.2013.43.1, were educational resources for young students learning their vocabulary at the turn of the nineteenth century. This set in particular includes vocabulary relating to religion, as a monastery can be seen in the top right corner. Notice, also, the giraffe in the bottom left corner. "Cameleopard" is a term that dates back to Julius Caesar in 46 BCE. In the early 1800s, the use of the term began to decline, and "giraffe" became the common word.
